「博多祇園山笠」は、770年以上の歴史があり、国の重要無形民俗文化財や、ユネスコ無形文化遺産にも登録されている夏祭り。（毎年7月1〜15日に開催）美しい山笠で知られ、展示用の「飾り山笠」と担ぐ「舁き山笠」がある。7つの流（組）が約1トンの山笠を担いで走る最終日の「追い山笠」は大迫力。44種類ある舁き手の水法被姿も名物で、流や町がひと目でわかる。

The Hakata Gion Yamakasa Festival (held July 1–15 every year) is a summer festival that dates back more than 770 years. It is one of the nation’s Important Intangible Cultural Properties, and is registered as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage. Known for its beautiful floats, the festival is divided into ornamental floats for exhibition and carry floats that are shouldered. The chasing floats on the final day pack a major punch as seven nagare (teams) carry and run with floats weighing about 1 ton on their shoulders. Another specialty are the 44 kinds of mizuhappi (traditional coats associated with this festival) worn by the carriers, instantly revealing their nagare or town.

ICHIRAN Classic Tonkotsu Ramen (from pork-bone broth) is characterized by the Original Spicy Red Sauce that mixes more than 30 ingredients, the odorless pork-bone broth from which excess scum is removed using a special method, and the Ichiran original raw noodles made by an artisan using an original blend of flour. They are also popular because of their unique system, such as the Ramen Focus Booths, where you can eat without having to worry about other people, and the order forms that let you pick your own flavors. The Fukuoka taste is gaining a following around the world as stores are opening not just in Japan, but overseas as well.

1784年、福岡市東区の志賀島で百姓が偶然見つけたとされる金印で、「漢委奴国王」の5文字が刻まれている。中国の歴史書『後漢書』に光武帝が倭奴国王に「印綬」を与えた記述があり、それがこの印だという説がある。現在は福岡市博物館に所蔵。そもそもなぜ志賀島に金印が埋められたのか、出土場所を含めて謎とロマンが香る国宝だ。

This gold seal was found by chance by a farmer on Shika Island, Higashi-ku, Fukuoka in 1784. It is inscribed with the five characters meaning “King of Na of Wa of Han.” The Chinese historical text Book of the Later Han mentions that Emperor Guangwu bestowed a “seal and ribbon” on the king of the Japanese (Wa) state of Na, and one theory holds that it was this seal. It is currently held be Fukuoka City Museum. It is a national treasure replete with mystery and romance as we don’t even why the gold seal was buried on Shika Island.

山陽新幹線の全線開業40周年と「新世紀エヴァンゲリオン」の放映開始20周年を記念して企画された、JR西日本の「エヴァンゲリオン新幹線」。2015年11月に運行を開始し、新大阪─博多間を1日1往復。エヴァ初号機を模した外装と特別仕様の内装が国内外から大人気で、2018年5月に惜しまれつつ運行を終了した。

JR West planned the Evangelion Shinkansen in commemoration of the 40th anniversary of the Sanyo Shinkansen and the 20th broadcasting anniversary of Neon Genesis Evangelion. Operation started in November 2015, going back and forth between Shin-Osaka and Hakata once a day. It was hugely popular in Japan and abroad for its exterior modeled after EVA Unit 01 and the custom-made interior. Operation was reluctantly concluded in May 2018.

『THE MANZAI 2014』の優勝者であり、博多弁漫才でおなじみのコンビが博多華丸・大吉。キャスターを務めるなど、朝の顔としても認知されている。福岡吉本の1期生で、デビューは1990年。2005年に東京に進出した。結成25周年となる2016年からは毎年福岡で記念公演を開催するなど、地元への愛も強い。

Hakata Hanamaru–Daikichi were the winners of THE MANZAI 2014 and are a duo known for their manzai comedy in the Hakata dialect. They are also well-known from morning TV as newscasters. They were in the first batch of artists from Fukuoka Yoshimoto and debuted in 1990. They moved to Tokyo in 2005. They also have a strong love for their home prefecture as they hold anniversary performances in Fukuoka every year, starting from their 25th anniversary in 2016.

とんこつラーメンや水炊きと並ぶ、博多名物料理。第二次世界大戦後に、モツとニラをアルミ鍋でしょうゆ味に炊いたものがルーツと言われている。リーズナブルなグルメとして90年代前半に全国的なブームとなり、1992年の新語・流行語大賞では銅賞を受賞した。コラーゲンが豊富で美容効果が高く、女性からも支持されている。

This stands abreast with tonkotsu ramen and mizutaki hot pot as a Hakata culinary specialty. Its roots are said to be the boiling of offal and garlic chives with soy sauce in aluminum pots after the Second World War. It boomed all over Japan in the early 1990s as fine food for a reasonable price, and was awarded bronze in the 1992 New Word and Buzzword Awards. It has a stable following among women as it is rich in collagen and good for the skin.
