難攻不落の名城とうたわれ戦国時代の終焉を迎える舞台となった小田原城。現在の天守閣は1960年に市制20周年記念事業として復興されたもので、江戸時代の3重４階の天守櫓に付櫓、渡櫓を付した複合式天守閣が再現されている。2016年、再建以来となる平成の大改修を終え、城内の展示もリニューアルされた。

Odawara Castle is a famous castle that was considered to be an impregnable fortress. It served as one of the final battle grounds of the Warring States period. The current castle tower was reconstructed as part of a project to commemorate the 20th anniversary of Odawara in 1960. It recreates the combined three-tiered, four-story tower from the Edo period with a Tsuke-Yagura (attached tower) and Watari-Yagura (roofed passage). The Heisei renovation, which was largest performed since the castle was initially reconstructed, was completed in 2016, and involved the renewal of the displays inside the castle.

鎌倉幕府の宗社・鶴岡八幡宮の流鏑馬神事は1187年源頼朝が流鏑馬を催行したのが始まりといわれ、今なお800年の伝統を受け継いでいる。毎年9月開催の例大祭で、弓馬術礼法小笠原流宗家による流鏑馬神事が執り行われ、狩装束に身を包み馬で駆けながら3つの的を射抜く勇壮な姿は鎌倉武士さながらである。

The Shinto ritual of Yabusame (horseback archery) at Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine, which is the ancestral shrine of the Kamakura Shogunate, is said to have been started by Minamoto No Yoritomo, who held a Yabusame event in 1187. This tradition has been passed down for over eight hundred years. In the annual festival held at the shrine every September, the Yabusame Shinto ritual is conducted by the head family of the Ogasawara style of mounted archery. The brave mounted figure dressed in hunting gear conjures up images of Kamakura era samurai as he rides past and shoots through the three targets.

JR大船駅に近づくと、丘の上に立つ真っ白な観音様が見えてくる。大船のシンボルとして観光スポットにもなっている「大船観音」は、1929年に地元有志が発起し築造を開始したが、戦争などの理由により建立が中断され完成までに30年以上の年月を要した。1981年には「大船観音寺」として曹洞宗の仏閣となった。

Looking out the car window, one sees the white Kannon (Buddhist deity of mercy) standing on the hill as the train approaches JR Ofuna Station. This statue is known as the “Ofuna Kannon,” and it is a sightseeing spot that has become the symbol of Ofuna. Local volunteers proposed and started erecting the statue all the way back in 1929, but the war and other events halted construction and delayed its completion, taking for over 30 years. In 1981, it became Ofuna Kannonji, a Buddhist temple of the Soto sect of Zen Buddhism.

京浜工業地帯である川崎市の臨海地域は、大規模な工場やコンビナートが立ち並び観光とは程遠い印象だが、夜にはキラキラと輝く作業用の照明や煙突から吹き出す炎などが創りだす幻想的な夜景が人気を呼び、「日本五大工場夜景エリア」として注目されている。工場夜景鑑賞バスツアーやクルージングも開催されている。

The Keihin Industrial zone sits along the coast in Kawasaki City, and is home to large factories and industrial complexes that stand side by side. It is not the type of place people would associate with sightseeing, but the fantastic night view created by the sparkling lights of the working factories and flames gushing from chimneys have made it a popular place, ranking it among the top five industrial night view areas in Japan. There are bus and cruise tours that all allow people to enjoy these nighttime views.

1908年創業、言わずと知れた横浜名物「崎陽軒のシウマイ」をメインとした「シウマイ弁当」は東海道線の旅には欠かせない定番駅弁。経木の弁当箱に掛け紙をかけて紐で結う昔ながらのスタイルが今なお守られている。また定番のシウマイやお弁当だけでなく、よりおいしくいただける様にというこだわりから、オリジナルの「崎陽軒のお茶」を開発。新たな旅のお供として販売している。

The “Shiumai (Shumai, Shaomai)” is Steamed Dumpling. The “Shiumai Bento” features “Kiyoken Shiumai,” which everyone knows to be one of the specialties of Yokohama since Kiyoken was founded in 1908. This is a popular box lunch to eat on the train, and is an essential part of any journey along the Tokaido Line. Even now, the meal still comes in a traditional lunch box made of paper-thin wooden sheets that are wrapped in paper tied with a string. In addition to the popular Shaomai and boxed meal, there is also the original “Kiyoken Tea,” which was created in a quest to produce even more flavorful tea. It is also sold as a new travel item.

社会現象にもなった大人気アニメ「エヴァンゲリオン」で、劇中に登場する「第3新東京市」があるとされるのが箱根町。箱根は日本有数の温泉観光地であり、「エヴァンゲリオン」とさまざまなコラボレーションも展開しており、多くのファンが訪れる人気のスポット。今回は、『ヱヴァンゲリヲン新劇場版：序』の劇中で、箱根山に初号機が登場するシーンをフィギュア化した。

Hakone-machi is considered to be the location of “TOKYO III” in EVANGELION,
a popular anime that became a social phenomenon. Hakone that is one of Japan’s most famous hot spring resorts has many tie-up attractions with EVANGELION, and so the town is a popular spot where many fans visit. This figure recreates the scene in which Unit-01 appears on Mount Hakone in the movie EVANGELION:1.0 YOU ARE (NOT) ALONE.

東京から熱海・伊東などの温泉地へのアクセスに便利な「スーパービュー踊り子」。251系特急形電車は1990年4月にデビューし、伊豆の美しい海や富士山などを大きなパノラマ車窓から楽しむことができる。富士山をバックに251系が走る光景のスピード感を表現するため大胆にパースをつけた絵画的フィギュアに仕上げた。

“Super View Odoriko” is super convenient for reaching hot springs in the Atami/Ito area from Tokyo. The Series 251 limited express train made its debut in April 1990. It offers passengers the opportunity to enjoy the beautiful sea of Izu and Mt. Fuji from the large panoramic car windows. This pictorial figure is finished with a bold perspective to depict the speedy feeling of the Series 251 running past Mt. Fuji.
