秋田県の西側、日本海に突き出た男鹿半島に伝わる民俗行事。大晦日の夜、出刃包丁や御幣を付けた杖を手に持ち、鬼のような面を被った「なまはげ」が家々を巡る。人々の怠け心を戒め、無病息災や実りをもたらす来訪神で、「泣く子はいねがー！怠け者はいねがー！」と大声で叫びながら地域の家々を巡るが、子供たちにとってはやはり恐ろしい存在で泣く子も多いのだそう…。

It features a folkloric event on the Oga Peninsula, an area in the western part of Akita Prefecture that juts into the Sea of Japan. On New Year's Eve, Namahage, a messenger wearing a demon-like mask and holding a stick with a sharp knife and sacred paper strips, visits houses in a community to warn of laziness and to bring good health and fortune. When visiting houses, he shouts "Is there a crying kid? Is there a lazybones?" Namahage is so terrifying that many children cry.

福島県いわき市にある「スパリゾートハワイアンズ」は、1966年（昭和41年）に「常磐ハワイアンセンター」としてハワイをイメージした日本初の温泉テーマパークとして開業。オープンまでの物語を描いた映画『フラガール』は、その年の映画賞を多数受賞するなど大きな話題に。現在では、映像と踊りがコラボレーションし、さらにパワーアップした圧巻のステージを楽しめる。

Situated in the Fukushima Prefecture city of Iwaki, Spa Resort Hawaiians was inaugurated in 1966 as Japan's first spa-based theme park featuring Hawaii under the name Joban Hawaiian Center.
The "Hula Girls" movie, which depicted the story of its creation, was much talked about and won several film awards in the year of its release. Today, the park offers dazzling performances combining images with dances.

近年、お正月の風物詩となっている築地市場のマグロの初セリ。毎年高値がつくことで注目を集めるが、その主役となるのが大間のマグロ。大間のマグロ漁は、マグロの中でも最も大型の「クロマグロ」（別名「ホンマグロ」）を１本釣りするのが代表的。過去には最大440kgのマグロが水揚げされ、大間崎にある「マグロ一本釣りモニュメント」のモデルとなっている。今回はそのモニュメントのマグロをモデルに造形した。

The year's first auction of tuna at Tsukiji market has become a New Year's attraction in recent years. Each year, the winning bid sets a high price to grab public attention. The highlight is tuna from Oma. Tuna fishing at Oma is characterized by Ippon-tsuri (pole-and-line fishing) of bluefin tuna, the largest species of tuna. The largest tuna on record weighed 440 kg and serves as a model for the monument to Ippon-tsuri of tuna at Omazaki. This object is a miniaturized representation of this monument.

東北の秋の定番イベント・芋煮会といえば、町内会や職場など身近な人たちと河原に集まって楽しむものだが、山形市で開催される「日本一の芋煮会フェスティバル」はスケールがケタ違い。直径6mの大鍋、調理には大型重機を使い、なんと一度に約３万食もの芋煮を調理する。食材も里芋3t、牛肉1.2t、水6tなど、山形産の食材がふんだんに使われ「山形名物」を存分に楽しめるイベントである。

Imoni-kai, or taro stew meeting, is a common autumn event in the Tohoku region. People in a town association or workplace gather on the riverside to cook and eat taro stew. Held in the city of Yamagata, Japan's Largest Imoni Festival is incomparable in size. Using a large pan with a diameter of six meters and a large, heavy machine, as many as around 30,000 servings of taro stew are prepared at a time from 3 tons of taro, 1.2 tons of beef, 6 tons of water and an abundance of other food ingredients from Yamagata. It is an event that allows you to enjoy this local specialty food.

仙台名物といえば、牛たん焼。1948年（昭和23年）に初めて牛たん焼専門店ができたのが発祥といわれる。その後、地元に根付き、仙台名物として全国的に知られるようになった。定番は、やはり「牛たん定食」。麦飯、牛テールスープ、漬物に、青唐辛子の南蛮味噌がつくのが特徴。今回は、人気店のひとつ「牛たん炭焼 利久」の牛たん定食を再現。

Gyutan-yaki (grilled beef tongue) is a specialty in Sendai. It is said to date back to 1948, when the first restaurant specializing in Gyutan-yaki opened in this city. Later, Gyutan-yaki became deeply rooted in the locality and it is now known across the country as one of the city's specialties. The standard choice is definitely the Gyutan-yaki set meal, which typically comes with rice and barley, beef tail soup, pickles and "namban miso" bean paste seasoned with green chili. This object imitates the Gyutan-yaki set meal served by the Gyutan Sumiyaki Rikyu restaurant, one of the most popular Gyutan-yaki restaurants in the city.

岩手山の麓、滝沢市で200年以上にわたって続く伝統行事。農耕馬に感謝する祭で、100頭程の馬たちがあでやかな飾りとたくさんの鈴をつけて、滝沢市鬼越蒼前神社から盛岡八幡宮までの約13kmの道のりを約4時間かけて行進する。歩くたびに鳴る鈴の音が「チャグチャグ」と聞こえることが名の由来といわれる。毎年6月に行われる東北の初夏を彩る風物詩である。

A traditional event with at least 200 years of history in the city of Takizawa on the foot of Mt. Iwate. It is a festival of gratitude for plow horses. Around 100 horses decorated with brilliant ornaments and lots of bells march about 13 km from Onikoshi Sozen Jinja shrine in Takizawa to Morioka Hachimangu shrine. The march takes around four hours. Chagu-chagu is said to derive from the sound of bells heard while horses walk. Held in June each year, it is a symbol of early summer in Tohoku.

世界自然遺産白神山地や日本海沿いを走る五能線は、車窓からの風景が素晴らしく、一度は乗ってみたいローカル線として人気。その五能線を走る「リゾートしらかみ」は、秋田駅から青森駅を結ぶリゾート列車で、車内での津軽三味線生演奏や、各駅で観光体験やご当地グルメが楽しめる。2代目の車両となるHB-E300系は、環境にやさしいハイブリッドシステムを採用。

The Gono Line is a rural railway line running beside the Shirakami Mountains, a world heritage site, and along the coast of the Sea of Japan. With spectacular scenic views from train windows, traveling on this line is so popular that many people feel they need to take the train at least once. The Resort Shirakami sightseeing trains link Akita and Aomori stations. Passengers can enjoy Tsugaru-shamisen live on the train and tourists experience local specialty food at each station along the line. The HB-E300 series train is the second-generation rolling stock that incorporates an environmentally friendly hybrid system.
